MC3 Suction & Aspiration Mouth Cleanser is our latest innovation and is a safe replacement for the sponge mouth swab.  The Mc3 suction can help prevent risk factors associated with Community and Hospital Associated Pneumonia for people who have an impaired swallow and require suctioning.

The cone shaped head and soft round filaments cleanses the inside of the mouth whilst removing sticky secretions and saliva via suction. The finger hold manages and controls the degree of suction by increasing and reducing the air flow. The unique addition of a soft ‘blade’ enables stubborn caked secretions to be removed safely and effectively.  The extended handle is easy grip and allows good access to the back of the mouth.

People who will benefit from Mc3 suction are those in critical care hospital settings and those with complex care in community settings.  Patients in hospital may be cared for in intensive care / stroke and  oncology wards and are dependent on others for mouth care.

Residents who live in the community and have an impaired swallow and require  frequent suctioning will benefit by reducing the risks factors of Community Associated Pneumonia.  People living with complex learning difficulties who are unable to manage their own saliva are at an increased risk of Community Associated Pneumonia.

To ensure good mouth care is achieved, include Mc3 and  Mc3S in all oral health care plans for vulnerable people.

MC3-S MouthEze Suction can be used to :

  • moisten the lips, tongue and soft tissues inside the mouth with water, water based gels and mouth rinses.
  • remove by suction debris from a coated tongue.
  • remove by suction retained food and debris from the mouth.
  • remove by suction sticky tenacious secretions, crusty plugs on the palate and stringy saliva following cancer therapy treatment.
  • aid for oral desensitisation techniques for people with swallow problems, special requirements, and or learning disabilities.

Instructions for use:

MC3-S can be used wet or dry, Day and Night. Remove from the sleeve and rinse in cold water if required.

  • Attach MC3-S to suction tube / suction machine
  • Place a finger over the finger hold. To increase and decrease the intensity of suction slide your finger fully or partially over the finger hold. This action increases and reduces the air flow
  • To remove food and debris , gently sweep around the soft tissues inside the mouth, use a rotation action
  • For a coated tongue, moisten Mc3 with water or water based gel and gently sweep across the tongue from the base to the tip of the tongue, suctioning at the same time
  • For lubricating the mouth – dip MC3 in water, mouth rinse or water based gel and gently sweep around the mouth, this may not require the use of suction

After use discard MC3-S.  It is a single episode of care use and is person specific. For critical care and intensive care units follow local mouth care policy.

Do not use if the packaging is open or the filaments / handle appear damaged.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Seek advice from a senior member of staff if the mouth is severely ulcerated.
  • For people with swallowing difficulties or a bite reflex, ensure no filaments have fallen into the mouth if the patient bites down on the Mc3S.

MC3-S  is NOT designed to clean teeth, use a toothbrush and toothpaste!

Storage: There are no special storage requirements for the unopened packs

Additional Information

Good oral hygiene is essential for improving and maintaining general health and well being. People who are medically or cognitively compromised may require mouthcare several times throughout the day to limit the risk factors associated with Ventilator Associated Pneumonia and other systemic diseases.
